Koinobori - Japanese Children's Day May 5th

Yesterday May 5th is called Children's Day in Japan. Traditionally people in Japan fly flags with huge fish family aka. Koi-Nobori.  I looks just like this.  There is a father fish, mother fish, brother fish, and sister fish. My mom says fish can be added or arranged depending on the family.  It's also called Boys Day I guess!

My mom usually display our small Koinobori outside the house but this year we decided to make our own version. By the way, Koi is a type of carp.

We looked online and found this site. I liked the design and we made our own version with color pencil and with paper. we made one for my brother, mom, dad and me. We put the fish art on our window facing the street instead of on the flag poll next to the Teddy stuffies this year.  I didn't make one for my dog but he is there standing with the fish him self : )

Do you have Children's Day in your country? If so, what do you do?
